MIDDLE SCHOOL PROMOTION CRITERIA

Student must achieve the following two benchmarks to be promoted to the next grade level:
  • GPA of 2.00 or better in ALL courses
  • Satisfactory Citizenship
  • Not more than 15 days absent (to include unexcused, personal, or truancy)
  • Not more than 5 days of suspension per semester
  • Not more than 5 discipline referrals per semester 
 
If students do not meet the above criteria.
  • Students will not be promoted to the next grade.
  • Eighth (8th) graders will not be allowed to participate in any promotion ceremony or activity.
  • Eighth (8th) graders will not be allowed to attend the end-of-year 8thgrade trip.
 
Students not meeting the above criteria can only be promoted if:
  • They receive an exception letter from their teacher based on the criteria outlined in the California Education Code.
  • They score proficient or advanced on the current year’s California Standards Tests in the areas of Language Arts and Mathematics.  Scores for these tests do not arrive until August.
 
California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE):  As per Ed. Code 60851(a) “each pupil shall successfully pass the exit examination as a condition of receiving a diploma of graduation….”  All students beginning with the class of 2006 must pass the California High School Exit exam in order to receive a high school diploma.
 

REPORT CARDS

Every SIX weeks of each semester a grade report is mailed. The last report of the semester shows the student’s final grade in each course. Only the semester grade appears on the student’s permanent record / transcript.
